Comments from Master Chin

I am sorry that I missed this happy occasion, yet I am glad that NTAPA is on the right track and winning.

Anita is smart, trying to shoot what your camera can do. There are so many different approaches you can do with your existing camera. Greg is progressing a lot. Your third photo is as good as any photos by DSLR users. Rick is great with your new cameras. However, it is your technique and your approach which make your photos outstanding, not just the Canon 30D. I admit that Canon 30D maybe make the job easier, but the differences from good photo from a bad one still rely on experience and the visual treatment of the one behind the camera.

Congratulations to Doc Lai. You are diversified to other field of photography now. Your approach is unique.

COMPOSITION WISE, no matter what kind of subject, the basic principles are the same. A photo is a display of lines, shapes, colors, tones, hues, highlight and shadows, textures, expression, mood. atmospheres in an orderly and pleasing way. No matter what kind of subject you are dealing with.

As a nanny to this club, I feel really happy to see my babies are growing stronger and healthier. Keep on growing.

Shutter Speed Issue

Greg, I saw you had a photo with 1/500 shutter. Your camera is definitely fast enough. If you pan, you don't even need that speed. Attached is a photo with only 1/125. Enjoy! - Li

Another marvelous picture!

My camera can reach as high as 1/1600, but I am so slow (or too fast) that some of my pictures even caught no horese at all :) - gh

A short message from Anita:

Personally, I had a wonderful time. And there was lots of action between races. You just had to find it. Without an enormous telephoto like most of you, I went after other kinds of pictures.

I hope to bring mine to the next meeting. When is it?

Anita

Anita,

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 8/15. Be ready!

I kind of agreed with you. I am also using a compacted camera, which is hard to take pictures like those using SLR cameras. It is too slow for this kind of scenes. However, It is smart for you to go after other kinds of pictures.

Below are my two to share with my Canon A610 ISO100, 1/500 sec,

Hi all,

I’m happy to see you guys who are making a big progress and really proud of this organization that we are all enjoying being members of it.

It’s our loss to see Master Chin moving back to Taiwan. But no matter where Master Chin goes, we always remember his advices such as when he PUSHED me to be the founder of NTAPA five years ago. And we did it with everybody's efforts and contributions.

Thank you all! Thank Master Chin!

Rick just upgraded his gear to Canon 30D, same as Howard's.

The 3 pictures below he took at the Park last Saturday are marvels.

Lone Star Park Tour 3

Dr. Lai keeps a strict rule for his work. He did not satisfied with photos he took this time at the Lone Star Park. He generously shares some here after my repeated request. He hopes we can have a second trip before long.

David Hsu took one of the two models to the Park that day. So some of us also took her pictures in the open field under the high sun. Feeling is totally different, isn't it? Enjoy!

JJ is one of our relatively new members. He joined us only a few months, but he works hard and learns fast. Believe pretty soon he will be catching up. Above and below are some of his pics taken at the Lone Star Park with us yesterday.

Lone Star Park Tour 1

Above and below pics taken by Su Li at Lone Star Park on 07.28.07

Dr. Lai initialized the idea
Li the first supported the action
All of us made it happen Saturday, 7/28

We had more than enough cars going
Frank, Rick, Anita and Li were all driving
David also had his car taking 3 of his friends going with us

Though we were broiling in the July Texan sun from time to time, we were overflowed with the enthusiasm of photographing and forgot the heat from our top
We enjoyed what we were doing
We did not catch too many satisfied moments
But we appreciated the opportunity
We learned
We were a content team

Here shows some of Li’s work, he is always the fast
We should have more to come

David Hsu’s Live Model Class – A Good Beginning

NTAPA’s first live model low lighting shooting class was done on Saturday afternoon, July 14, 2007, under Master Davie Hsu’s solo arrangement and instructions. It was a fresh try, but it was well accepted by all members who attended the event.

The learning of low light shooting is the key. David requested no flash lights in the class.

A number of members called or emailed me after the program, showing their appreciation for the occasion. We hope soon we will have a second session.

Comment from Dr. Lai:
The Live Model Shooting Class was a very helpful and beneficial activity to most of our members. At least our Master Lai likes it very much and urges to have more similar events in the future. As I mentioned earlier, Dr. Lai feels portrait is a very important subject to photographers.

Email from a lady member:
Model shooting was fun! I never took numerous pictures for same person at same period of time before. Sounds crazy too! The young girl is a quiet skinny student, a little nerves, seldom smile in front of so many lenses. I saw Dr. Lai catch a good moment for her eyes expression . The other one looked like a juicy peach (【俚】特別惹人喜愛的人;漂亮的女孩)! Everyone got good shoots!!

I kept the one I shoot from her back; she had a very soft and sexy neck and should lines! Since she had been so busy about her posture before cameras, she forgot her back! The muscles there were relax and natural.

Model shooting is good but variety could be more fun!!

Comment from a gentleman:
I have learned low light shooting techniques: camera against light background without flash. Before this will for sure always give me a total black face of the person, can see nothing. Now I can see her face details without using the flashing, a big step accomplishment for myself!

Email from the President:

It was a great lesson for sure. I learn a lot myself too. Thanks to David and Dr. Lai.

Email from our Master Hsu:
You missed the good one. These scenes are in and out daily which are around us all the time. Everybody can take nice photos if he or she has the sense to catch it. If that’s the case I’ll work harder to share what I have to our friends.

I have told our members to summit the electric files (burned on a CD ROM) to Wei-May (唯美文化), Mr. Walter Hsu. I’ll organize the final and give to the models as a complimentary.

Good luck and enjoy the beautiful life!
